MINI Digital Key uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to let a compatible smart device function as a vehicle key. To lock or unlock the vehicle, hold the device against the driver’s-side door handle. To start the vehicle, place the paired device in the wireless charging tray and operate the START/STOP control. MINI also allows the primary Digital Key to be shared with up to five friends or family members through a compatible smartphone’s digital wallet.
MINI Digital Key Plus: Ultra-Wideband Hands-Free Convenience
On appropriately equipped models, MINI Digital Key Plus adds passive vehicle access, allowing a compatible device to remain in your pocket or bag. With Comfort Access enabled, the vehicle can automatically unlock as you approach and lock as you leave, eliminating the need to hold your device against the door handle. Once inside, you can operate the START/STOP control without first placing the device in the wireless charging tray. Digital Key Plus can also be shared with up to 18 friends or family members, with access managed through the primary user’s digital wallet.
