The MINI Countryman is a compact vehicle known for its nimble handling and go-kart-like feel. What drivetrains are available with this model, and more specifically, does it come with all-wheel-drive as one of the drivetrain options?

Drivetrain Options

The 2022 MINI Countryman comes with front-wheel-drive as standard. However, all-wheel-drive, or ALL4 as it’s known, is available across all trims. Opting for the ALL4 variant gives you better control under various road conditions, from mountainous terrain to dirt-encrusted gravel roads.

All-wheel-drive is also available for the plug-in version of the MINI Countryman. There is also a Boardwalk Edition that will have the ALL4 as an option as well. This limited-edition trim will be graced in Deep Laguna Blue Metallic paint.

All About ALL4

ALL4 all-wheel-drive isn’t your standard AWD system. It’s connected to the vehicle’s computer system, so when the computer detects rain, for example, it distributes power between wheels as needed to maintain traction. Combined with the brand’s Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, this helps drivers keep their cars steady.

Furthermore, ALL4 all-wheel-drive also works in tandem with the car’s Dynamic Stability Control. Together, these two systems compute the ideal traction distribution between the front and rear axles when traversing rugged terrain.

Performance

While all-wheel-drive certainly assists in handling and controls, the components under the hood also play a role. Under the hood of the MINI Countryman is a three-cylinder engine, with the option to upgrade to a four-cylinder engine.

With the S trim comes 18-inch wheels. Buyers that opt for the optional Driver Assistance package can further enhance controls with adaptive cruise control.
