Considering the road conditions tires experience and amount of times that they rotate on a daily basis, it’s easy to understand that tires are not indestructible. Here at Orlando MINI, we want to make sure you are getting the most out of your tires. By giving them a little bit of attention every now and then, you can make your set last a lot longer than you might have initially thought.
Check the Air Pressure
Driving with the incorrect air pressure can cause uneven and premature wear, but the problems go beyond that. Over-inflated tires will cause rapid tire wear, and under inflated tires will kill your gas mileage. If you don’t have the right air pressure in your tires, it can also affect your MINI’s handling and braking. The situation only gets worse if you are driving in unfavorable conditions like rain or snow. Check your tire pressure often, especially during extreme weather, as a tire’s air pressure can fluctuate 1 PSI for every 10-degree difference in temperature.
Inspect for Uneven Wear
Uneven tire wear can be difficult to catch early on, but if you see that one area is more worn down, you’ll want to consider bringing your vehicle in to our service center for a full inspection. Our technicians will determine the best course of action to help prevent more uneven wear. There are a few factors that cause this to happen, such as a problem with your alignment or suspension, unbalanced tires or wheels, or an internal issue.
Get a Rotation
The problem above, uneven wear, can be prevented by getting regular tire rotations. This process consists of removing each tire, inspecting the wear, and figuring out the best positioning to place them back on in.
By addressing these few issues, you can make your tires last a long time. Here at Orlando MINI, we have a full MINI service center to help you maintain the health of your tires.
