Our new MINI cars here at Orlando MINI contain the latest automotive systems. Still, how safe are these vehicles given their smaller size? Are they safe for daily commuting? Today, we’re covering all the technologies that are available in the safety department.
Safety Technology
Automotive safety technology has improved by leaps and bounds in the past decade, making compact cars safer than before. Some of the safety features in current-year MINI vehicles include the following:
- Crash Sensor System: In the event a collision occurs, these built-in sensors will minimize damage by automatically shutting off the fuel pump and activating the hazard lights.
- Rollover Protection Bar: If a rollover occurs, this frame-mounted bar will deploy to minimize damage to the cabin and its occupants.
- Cornering Brake Control: This system adjusts brake pressure as you’re changing lanes or turning a corner.
- Head-Up Display: Get real-time information like traffic updates and directions without taking your eyes off the road.
Aside from safety technology, modern MINI cars are built using a flex-free body frame that ensures a durable crumple zone. This frame also assists in reducing vibrations, squeaks, and rattles for a quieter commute. Inside the cabin, most models have a total of eight airbags that include ceiling-mounted, side-curtain, and knee airbags.
Safety Awards
Several MINI models have also been the recipients of top safety awards. The MINI Hardtop 2 Door, for example, has been frequently named a Top Safety Pick+, which is the highest award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Likewise, the MINI Countryman has received Top Safety Pick awards for five years straight.
