The 2019 MINI Hardtop 2-Door has been awarded the 2018 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety® (IIHS). While this 2019 MINI car has yet to reach our MINI dealership in Orlando, it’s a good option to start looking into if you’re getting ready to buy. Our inventory at Orlando MINI features many top-rated choices that are great for you and your family.
How to Earn the Top Safety Pick from the IIHS
To earn the title of being a 2018 Top Safety Pick by the IIHS, a vehicle has to have “Good” ratings in all tests for crashworthiness, excluding the newly introduced passenger side testing. The front crash prevention system also must have an Advanced or Superior rating to earn this award. The MINI Hardtop 2-Door received “Good” ratings across the board of crashworthiness tests, including driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side rood strength, and head restraints.
MINI Testing Passes With Flying Colors
As tested with the optional Active Driving Assistant that has forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, the 2019 MINI Hardtop 2-Door nearly avoided a crash in the 12 mile per hour test at the IIHS test track. During the 25 mile per hour test, the MINI car’s Active Driving Assistant reduced the speed of impact by seven miles per hour. The system earned an advanced rating and includes a forward collision warning system that meets the IIHS criteria.
New Headlights Improve the Score
Another big selling point, at least safety wise, on the 2019 MINI Hardtop 2-Door is the optional LED headlights that have been upgraded from the 2018 models. If you’re going to pick and choose which features to upgrade, we highly recommend going with the better headlights for the best possible visibility from your MINI vehicle.
